Fall is the Season of Change

I have always believed that there was a deep reason why school begins in the fall, outside the traditional agricultural beliefs. Fall is a season of profound change. And just when we think we have figured out that change, it changes again. It is with a sad heart that I offer this brief, first, and final offer of our blog for our K class. This adjustment of classes was unanticipated but we must serve the best interest for every child. These more equitably sized classrooms will lead to that end.

In our little K class we have been learning to work together, to build our stamina for school, and to persevere through challenges and disappointments. (for teacher too!)
Here is our experience at Cherrydale so far.

Here we are on our first day of school .

The beginning of the year is all about learning procedures. Here we are with Mrs. Maker's class, meeting our helper Mrs. Franklin to learn about recess rules. Our school has lovely natural grounds and the children have quite a range to run and play. It is important to follow the rules to stay safe.

We have been learning rules using David Shannon's NO! DAVID! books. After reading, we created a paperback puppet to practice our cutting skills.

We have learned how to log in to our IReady accounts. We have taken our benchmark assessments and will begin using IReady as part of our math and reading centers very soon!

PS--I am missing one set of these colorful headphones. If they ended up going home by accident would you please send back?  Thanks!
Lunch time is a favorite time of day. Many students start off the day asking "when is it lunch time?"  Our cafeteria serves child friendly foods and has a nice salad bar for children to select fruits and veggies.

In the afternoons, we enjoy our time in Music and PE with Mrs. Gonzales, and Mr. Kirby!

We have been getting to know each other by sharing books when our work is done.
And in math, we learned some team games, like 5 Towers, and we also worked with our pattern blocks.

At the end of the day we practice social skills by engaging in building activities.

And now....we are all on to new adventures!
It has been a privilege to be your child's teacher, if only for a brief period of time.
I know all of the children will have a wonderful year, and we will see each other at lunch and on all of the field trips!
I wish you all, every good thing.
Stay tuned for more next month if you are staying in Room 14!
Go Hawks!
