The middle of last month, 3rd grade undertook the SBAC tests. I explained that these tests were a way for the government to make sure the school and the teachers were doing what we were supposed to be doing. It was like the Superbowl where the students got to show what they had learned. The children loved the idea that they were so important in showing that our school was doing well. They wanted to make signs to help cheer on the 3rd graders as they made their way to start their tests.
Math was lots of hands on fun with measurement and geometry. In geometry, we explored pattern blocks. We reviewed the names of shapes and described their attributes naming how many faces and vertices. We used standard and non-standard tools for measuring, and explored the differences between centimeters and inches. We read How Big is a Foot to learn why standard measure is important and where we got the term 'ruler.'

Special thanks to Claire's mom, Maria-Teresa who spotted a good deal on strawberries and brought a flat for us to share for snack! They were dee-licious!
Thursdays were writers workshop days in the afternoon. We wrote rough drafts, and clean copies, then shared our narrative stories with the class.
But the learning and application was not over. In art we used our geometry understanding and drew
3-D buildings. We made sure our windows were arrays which we used later during our multiplication lessons.
We were so proud of our
Mileage Club winners!
Wasn't the children's concert charming? They had 2 all grade level rehearsals before the big night.
Wednesday night, the children returned, all shiny, ready to sing for you!
Field day was next. The weather was mostly cooperative for our part of the day. Thank you to all of you who volunteered!
The weather was not as cooperative on Beach Day. A cold squall came through about lunch time but the rest of the time we had fun with and without the sun.
Thank you to Mrs. Mecca and Mrs. Correll for being our room moms. Mrs. Mecca rocked Thursday envelopes all year!
I thank you for the opportunity to work with your children.
I wish you all a wonderful summer.
Ms Rae
