We read the story of the First Thanksgiving and learned that the Pilgrims were not perfect people. But the story is important because it teaches us how important compassion for others is.
We started our production by creating our Native Americans and Pilgrims.
Big thanks to Crystal Baker for coming up with a great design for The Mayflower and for creating the windmill.
Melanie Tinsley came in and supported team "spring."
Meanwhile, in another part of the forest...
Fish were being crafted:
Corn stalks were made:
And murals were painted and colored.I was very proud of the children and their crafts and performances. We showed our play to 2 classes before our final show for the parents. I hope they enjoyed this experience.
We had another very fun experience the week before.
We were reading some new variations on the 3 Little Pigs story, so we did a fun STEM activity. The children were given 12 DOTS candies and as many toothpicks as they needed to create a structure that could not be blown down by the wolf. (AKA known as Ms Rae's blow dryer.) As the children started there was some frustration about making it stand up. So we played the song. "All about the "base". The children were invited to look at other children's work to see if they could figure out if there was a good idea that they could incorporate.
Wonderfully, every single structure withstood the blows of the wolf.
So now we are 4 weeks away from the winter holiday.
We welcome volunteers during our reading rotations from 10:30-11:40 MTWF to help with logging in and other stations.
We will also have a craft workshop on December 21st, the last day before break. We'd love extra hands throughout the day.
Have a lovely Sunday and we'll see everyone on Monday.
Happy Days! (and go 'Hawks!)
Ms. Rae
