What a lovely Spring we are having!
Thank you all for your sweet remembrances this week for teacher appreciation week. My room still smells of lilac!
In honor of Earth Day, we had a guest teacher, Mrs. Elling from Pierce County Recycling.
The children received a very thoughtful and detailed lesson on why we recycle and what we can recycle in Pierce County. The children sorted items and got to bring a magnet helper home. Thank you, Maria Teresa for suggesting this idea!
By the way, if you did not know....I discovered that there is a drop off center for glass etc at the Steilacoom Community Center on the side closest to the Police Department.
We had our first inductees to our Clip Chart Hall of Fame. These are students who are helpful and nearly always on task. Sometimes overlooked, it is a great way to say bravo! and acknowledge daily work well done. The trio decorated their clips with sparkly gems and the clips now hang in our hallway for all to see.
The children worked very hard on their fractions unit so it was time for some fun. We advanced our understanding by using Hershey Bars! 12 pieces that can be regrouped many ways gave us some sweet, hands-on practice.
The Cheetah Walk was an enormous success. It was a lovely day...not too warm...and everyone had a wonderful time. It was fun to see the children come down the trail with different friends throughout the walk. It was great having so many of you join us!
Due to your generosity, this year's Cheetah Walk raised over $3,000 for the Cheetah Conservancy fund in Africa, and our adopted cheetah, Ron. Read more here. https://cheetah.org/about-us/
I hope you all have a joyful Mother's Day. I heard of many plans for Breakfast in Bed ( I pleaded on your behalf to let you sleep late!) and dinners. Our wee tokens made in class were done with great love. There was such pride in their accomplishment when they were finished.
Much love to you all!
